Village Board Meeting Tonight Feb 27

On the agenda:

Executive session to discuss: the proposed acquisition/sale/lease of real property when publicity might affect value.

In other words, we need to keep this secret.

From NYS Public Officers Law, Article 7:

§105. Conduct of executive sessions. 1. Upon a majority vote of its total membership, taken in an open meeting pursuant to a motion identifying the general area or areas of the subject or subjects to be considered, a public body may conduct an executive session for the below enumerated purposes only, provided, however, that no action by formal vote shall be taken to appropriate public moneys: a. matters which will imperil the public safety if disclosed; b. any matter which may disclose the identity of a law enforcement agent or informer; c. information relating to current or future investigation or prosecution of a criminal offense which would imperil effective law enforcement if disclosed; d. discussions regarding proposed, pending or current litigation; e. collective negotiations pursuant to article fourteen of the civil service law; f. the medical, financial, credit or employment history of a particular person or corporation, or matters leading to the appointment, employment, promotion, demotion, discipline, suspension, dismissal or removal of a particular person or corporation; g. the preparation, grading or administration of examinations; and h. the proposed acquisition, sale or lease of real property or the proposed acquisition of securities, or sale or exchange of securities held by such public body, but only when publicity would substantially affect the value thereof. 2. Attendance at an executive session shall be permitted to any member of the public body and any other persons authorized by the public body.

You don't have to like it; it's the law of the land.

I was unable to attend the village board meeting last night and just read Ned's article about the meeting, on the Press Republican website. I am absolutely disgusted by Cliff Donaldson working to bring Wal-mart to Saranac Lake, and especially without minimal consent or knowledge of the Saranac Lake Village Board. Who the &%$# does he think he is to say that it's good for Saranac Lake? And to quote Ned, "He said working-class and poor families in the village would benefit from Wal-Mart's prices and the region would rake in thousands of tax dollars." They might benefit from the prices, if they can even afford them, but they certainly won't benefit from the jobs. And of course he's excited about the taxes--they're going to Essex County.

Ugh. I am enraged. He is completely uneducated to the truth about Wal-mart.

I'm upset by Mr. Donalsons actions too. However, I would appreciate it if comments left on this blog could be a bit less offensive.

It sure looks like the anti-Wal-Mart forces are so refined in thir response to this latest revalation! Now they can direct thir vitriolic hounding toward Mr. Donaldson. I personally am glad that The Essex county representatives are in tune to the real needs of the majority of those who live and work in the tr-lakes region. Cliff - Keep up the good work!

hey wal-mart bring it on:

I'd love for you to define "real needs" for me. Do these perhaps include access to aisles and aisles of cheap junk made by underpaid and overworked Chinese factory laborers? Or maybe you are referring to the "real needs" of locals to have jobs that pay substandard wages and provide no benefits? Or could it be simply that you just can't get enough of those oversized bags of chemical ridden popcorn for your kids? Yeah, those must be the "real needs" you are referring to.

God bless Cliff Donaldson and Linda Piro for looking out for all of us poor, disadvantaged Tri-Lakers who don't have a place to satisfy those "Real Needs!" Give me a break.

Yes! God Bless Cliff Donaldson and Linda Piro for looking out for the economic needs of the individuals in this community who cannot afford to shop at our local boutiques. Sorry, but have you ever tried to find childrens clothing at a reasonable price in this town? It's simple things which many of our residents are making the trip to Plattsburgh for. The traffic on route 3 on the weekend can attest to that fact and the downtown in SL looks like a ghost town on Saturday And Sunday! GIVE ME A BREAK! Also, the next time you purchase ANYTHING check to see where it is made, aind if it is not made in the Good-Old-USA than don't buy it - I have ordered stuff from L. L. Bean, Columbia, Lands End, and upon receiving the items looked at the Made in labels and guess what? The items were made in China, Vietnam, Costa Rica, Guatemala, Mexico, etc... So don't give me the cheap China argument as it just doesn't hold water! EVERY retailer in this country is selling items which are made overseas, don't be such a hypocrite!

What you fail to comprehend "wal-mart supporter" is that THERE ARE ALTERNATIVES TO WAL-MART! Just because w-m is interested in SL does not mean we have to accept them as our only choice. Of course, lots and lots of the stuff we Americans "need" are made overseas and we aren't going to solve that issue here. What we can do is prevent allowing a corporation that encourages over-consumption from coming to our village. Why not consider a smaller alternative like a community based department store? Or how about considering taking a trip to LP to buy those children's clothes from the thrift shop? Also, there is apparently a thrift shop here in SL near Will Rogers although I've never been there and I don't know if they have children's clothes. Regardless, why don't you try thinking about this issue from a broader perspective than your own narrow "needs?"

Thank you, Thank you, I'm sooooo appreciative to get the discarded thrift store clothes from the wealthy residents of Lake Placid and Saranac Lake! Thanks so much your suggestion you condescending A##!

hey take it or leave you idiot because there's no way in hell this inept bunch of morons we have for a village board is going to get through seqr without f-ing up.

I, and the other members of CARD, will gladly see you and the SEQR hearings or any other public forums. This issue is not over and we are as just as determined and motivated as you and your group. I know however that we in the end will prevail so how about you getting your bags packed up so you can leave town. I'm sure withj the recent assesment increase, if you own a home, will fetch you a fantastic selling price to someone from New Jeersey, Metro NY, Boston, CT, etc... Have a nice day! :-)
