Supercenter has nothing to do with size

Sometimes size does matter.

A 121,000 sq ft WalMart Supercenter is the equivalent of 50 downtown independent stores.

Or, 12 Kinney's (a true regional company) Drug stores.

Or, 4 football fields.

Of couse size matters. Trying to compare the Plattsburgh Wal-Mart to Saranac Lake's proposed Wal-Mart is equivalent to comparing apples to oranges. You can't even begin to compare the two and you shouldn't even try. And by the way Plattsburgh has room for a football field or two. We obviously do not. The Party who said size doesn't matter should get their head examined. They just don't know what they are talking about!

If you really want to see what the size difference is go look into SAGA's front window. They have a diagram of Main Street businesses. The picture begins at the end of the town hall and ends around Blue Line sport shop. Over the top of that is what a 121,000 square foot store would look like in comparison to that. The drawings are to scale folks. Those people who say size doesn't matter have no idea what they are talking about.
For those Wal-Mart supporters I would offer you a challenge. Go into business. That's right. Open your own retail store in town. Go after the business license, get your sales tax number, purchase your inventory, rent your store, etc. After you have done all that, stay in business for a few years. Put in your long hours, stay open a few evenings a week, etc. In other words, work hard at building your own retail business. Then, when Wal-Mart wants to come to town and build their concrete football field or two, see if you are STILL A SUPPORTER OF THIS BUSINESS.
