The Secret to Beating Wal-Mart!!!

The secret to small businesses beating Wal-Mart has finally been released in a Letter to the Editor of the ADE from Marc Joseph.

Actually it's really a quite simple two step process:

1) Buy (and presumably read) CEO Joseph's book - “The Secrets of Retailing … or How to Beat Wal-Mart.”

2) Purchase your products from CEO Josephs online wholesaler dollardays.com

Writing a letter is certainly cheaper than purchasing an ad I guess.

These two points need to be put into a letter to the Editor...many arguments supporting Walmart are from the property owners who will sell to Walmart, the architects who design for wal-mart, and from those who have no vested interest within this community.

I agree. Can you put them into a letter please. We need more thoughtful letters like you mention above.

Also, this letter from Mr. Joseph sounds like it too was written by the Almighty Wal-Mart. Wow, what a slick piece of PR. Take a look at the dollardays.com site and then the walmart site...quite similar...

Come on folks, get some letters into the editor.

Mr. Joseph's letter makes me want to hurl. He has no knowledge of or investment in this community. He's from $%&@! Scottsdale Arizona for god's sake! Yuck! I've written my letter, folks, so it's time for others to step up to the plate so we can win this PR war! Let's see those letters to the Editor!

Speaking of letters to the editor in support of W/M - did anyone catch the letter from the architect that designs "nationally known chain stores" in the tri-state area about a week ago? Is she one of the "archtects" that we can blame for those cookie-cutter "designs" that are a blight across this country's landscape? As the above comment suggests, only those that will benefit from Wal-Mart seem to support it. Follow the money.

I see some very good points written on this blog. Let's share them with the editor. WM is obviously getting folks to write letters to the editor as part of their trying to sneak in to our community. I know we have many thoughtful, intellegent folks in this community who do not want WM for very good reasons. If we want to win this PR campaign, we need to speak up in our letters to the editor. Help inform residents of the NEGATIVE impacts of Wal-mart and/or inform residents of the POSITIVE things about Saranac Lake.
We need folks to realize what they stand to loose here. We must stop Wal-Mart trying to brainwash our community!! Speak up or forever hold your peace...at the WM check out line.

And once again, a regular TOTT caller said she was going to Plattsburgh today, named the stores she would be going to, and made a point of saying that she was boycotting "every darn store in this lousy town." These people confuse me. They keep talking about what a lousy place this is to live. If that's how they feel, what the devil is keeping them here!? It sounds like they are longing to live elsewhere. So why don't they? Another point to make in a letter to the editor!

I don't know about anybody else, but this letter sounded to me like an advertisement for what he was selling. And don't ask me where he got his figures. The whole thing sounded like Wal-Math to me! (Wal-Math definition: 2 + 2= 5, or 2 + 2+= 3.) Wal-Math is Wal-Mart mathmatics that never seem to add up right.
